Reproduction
![]() ![]() | Once a wombat reaches the age of 2 years it is ready to find a mate. Wombats only give birth to one baby at a time which is unusual because it has 2 teats. Wombats are marsupials but they are different from all the other known marsupials. Unlike kangaroos and the like, wombats have a backwards facing pouch that allows it to dig without dirt getting in the pouch, hurting the baby and creating a nuisance for the animal. The gestation period is about 20 to 30 days when the baby then moves to the pouch for another 6 months for further maturation. ![]() |
